2.) Go bright: the brighter the costume, the more visible the child. Add reflective tape for added safety, or give your child a glow stick to carry with them.
3.) Avoid masks: If it's absolutely necessary to wear a mask, ensure that the mask is properly fit, makes it easy for the child to breathe, and that the child is old enough to take the mask off themselves if there were ever an emergency.
4.) Inspect: make sure to carefully look at any treats your child receives and discard anything suspicious, homemade, or unusual. Unwrapped treats are a definite no!
5.) Don't stray far from home: trick-or-treating in your neighborhood and with families that you know well. Teach children early on about stranger danger by encouraging the familiar.
